TIM McCLURE
Executive Creative Director
A native Texan, Tim McClure is a founder of Texas-based Omnicon advertising
agency GSD&M, and president of the agency's legendary branding group,
Mythos. His 31-year career includes directing teams that created the Texas:
It's Like A Whole Other Country campaign for state tourism and Play
the Game of Texas, the most successful lottery premiere in America.
He is also the author of Don't Mess with Texas, the most successful
antilitter campaign in history. Since co-founding the agency with five
University of Texas graduates in 1971, McClure has helped put Coca-Cola,
Texas on the map, spiced up Chili's Pepper, and inspired customer
loyalty with Wal-Mart's Always campaign. The Bob Bullock Texas
State History Museum credits McClure with their slogan, The Story of
Texas; the concept for the spectacular terrazzo campfire in the Museum's
rotunda; and encouraging decision-makers to go forward with their plans
for the powerful 35-foot bronze star that graces the Museum's grand entry.
JAN WIERINGA
Producer
Jan Wieringa has carved out an outstanding career in both feature film
and commercial industries over the past 20 years. Wieringa has produced
award-winning campaigns with directors such as Ridley Scott, Michael Bay,
David Fincher, Adrian Lyne, David Lynch, and Joe Pytka. In the feature
arena, she garnered the coveted "Filmmakers Trophy" at the prestigious
Sundance Film Festival for producing Pow Wow Highway for George
Harrison's Handmade Films. As a production executive at HBO, she executive
produced several notable films, including the ACE award-winning The
Man Who Broke 1,000 Chains, starring Val Kilmer. She also has experience
as an Assistant Director, having worked on Waltz Across Texas, Carny,
Humanoids from the Deep, and with Bob Rafelson on The Postman Always
Rings Twice. Wieringa currently resides in Los Angeles and has her
own production company called Chemistry Pictures, which produces independent
feature films.
SCOTT SWOFFORD
Director
Scott Swofford, director of TEXAS: THE BIG PICTURE, received his B.A.
in Theatre/Film from Brigham Young University in 1980, and has been active
in film production for over 20 years. He is currently the President of
Vineyard Productions, a position he has held since 1994. Swofford has
a long list of production credits to his name, including Shackleton's
Antarctic Adventure, which was awarded the Best IMAX film of 2002
by the Giant Screen Theater Association. He served both as Producer and
Co-director for Great American West, a large-format movie for JQH
Films, which was shot in Utah, Montana, Montreal, Oregon, Arizona and
California. He has also served as Producer for Olympic Glory (a
Kennedy/Marshall Production shot in Nagano, Japan), and National Geographic's
Mysteries of Egypt, which was the highest grossing giant screen
film of 1999, and winner of the Houston, US International Film Fest Awards.
T.C. CHRISTENSEN
Director of Photography
T.C. Christensen graduated with a B.A. in Theatre & Communications from
Brigham Young University, and has worked for over 27 years in the film
industry. With more than 260 national and international awards to his
name, Christensen has experience in a variety of productions, from T.V.
to large-format films. Some of his diverse projects have included Seasons
of the Heart with Claude Akins for Family Films/Hallmark, and the
TV special, Kenney Rogers & the American Cowboy for CBS/Keith Merrill
& Associates. Other large-format film credits include his work as Director
of Photography on Olympic Glory (working alongside Scott Swofford),
and also as D.P. for the National Geographic's Lewis & Clark: Great
Journey West.
SEAN MACLEOD PHILLIPS
Director of Photography
Sean Phillips has created memorable images in virtually every motion picture
format - from national television commercials to IMAX, the world's largest
70mm film format. Phillips holds a degree in Cinema/Television from the
University of Southern California. Phillips directed and photographed
Technopia, a motion-based adventure film that became the #1 smash
hit of the '93 World Expo, which won Imagina and Telly Awards, and by
popular demand now plays permanently at the Expo site. He directed and
photographed the opening King Kong special effects sequence for the IMAX
film Special Effects, which received an Academy Award Documentary
Short nomination. More recently he was the Director of Photography of
Thrill Ride, Encounter in the Third Dimension and Bugs,
all in the IMAX film format. Sean was the Director of Photography on the
groundbreaking IMAX film, Siegfried & Roy: The Magic Box, for L-Squared
Entertainment, which was recently honored with a MAXI award for best 3-D
picture and best 3-D Cinematography by the vote of the International Network
of Imax Theaters. Sean is also the recipient of the Kodak Vision Award
for Large Format Cinematography. He recently shot "R.L. Stine's Haunted
Lighthouse," a 70mm theme park attraction for "Gremlins" director
Joe Dante and Busch Entertainment Corporation.
SAM CARDON
Composer
Sam Cardon has created musical scores for nine feature-length motion pictures,
including Friendship's Field, On Our Own, Nora's Gift, Seventh Brother,
Return to Secret Garden, Brigham City, Someone Was Watching, Little Secrets
and Jump for Joy. In addition, Cardon has a number of large-format
film credits to his name, having composed the music for Treasure of
the Gods, Whales, The Secret of San Francisco, Hearst Castle - Building
the Dream, The Mysteries of Egypt, Olympic Glory, and most recently,
Shakleton's Antarctic Adventure and Lewis & Clark: Great Journey
West.
MYLES CONNOLLY
Editor
Myles Connolly has extensive experience in the making of large-format
films. He served as Editor for MacGillivray Freeman Films' production,
Indonesia - Indah!, as well as Associate Editor for Amazing Caves
(for the National Science Foundation), Dolphins (for MacGillivray
Freeman Films/National Wildlife Foundation), Everest (for the National
Science Foundation) and The Magic of Flight (for the Naval Aviation
Museum). Connolly has been involved in many other giant screen film productions,
including Disney's The Young Black Stallion, Kilimanjaro, Lost Worlds
and Bears. In addition, he has served as Assistant Editor on numerous
TV projects and feature films.
COLBY DONALDSON
Narrator
A native Texan, Colby Donaldson grew up on a ranch in the small town of
Christoval in West Texas and graduated from Texas Tech University. After
his breakout appearance on the reality TV show, “Survivor: The Australian
Outback,” Donaldson is now pursuing a career in acting. In 2002, he appeared
on episodes of “Reba” and “Just Shoot Me,” as well as the made-for-TV
movie, “Another Pretty Face.” As the narrator for TEXAS: The Big
Picture, Donaldson shares much in common with many of the subjects
of the film. He has experience riding in rodeos; he was an All-State football
player in high school; and he enjoys barbequing, customizing cars and
dancing to live music.
